After participating in a Christian group coaching program, I started the practice of looking for the biggest lesson of the day. It was amazing to realize that each day held valuable instruction that I was previously too distracted to notice. Try it. At the end of the day, preferably before going to bed, just reflect on the events over the last several hours and you’ll notice that something specific (a conversation, someone’s behavior, an emotion, and so on) will become heightened. You’ll have insight that will help you navigate life. It’s pretty awesome. I documented these revelations over the last couple of years and will share some of my biggest lessons in a series.
Biggest Lesson: My Space is a Sanctuary
Colleagues would often come into my office to share their dreams, fears, and everything in between – our time often ended in prayer. After considering some of the discussions, it became apparent that the men and women whom I worked with didn’t have an outlet where they could exhale, contemplate their purpose, or convey their heart’s desires. My office and many times the lunch kitchenette or conference room, would become a sanctuary. God was in the midst as I was allowed to share how He delivered me from my own anxieties and hang ups and they were able to receive inspiration to pursue the path uniquely created from them.
Bonus Lesson: Our Careers are Horizontal, Not Linear
At my very first full-time job out of college, a woman said to me that she stopped thinking about her career as a linear path. She stopped thinking about the preverbial ladder to climb. Instead, she realized that God had her on assignment moving around to cross paths with others. Little did I know that she was imparting a prophetic word (and probably holds true for you). We are on God’s special opps team, deployed to interact with specific people, for us to be the light (and in many cases to receive light).
